Snow Day and Super Heroes!

Today we experienced lovely temperatures here in Houston, it reached 72 this afternoon and was quite nice to watch the boys play from my swing under the tree. You wouldn't believe the "terrible" ice storm was just 3 days before.

The anticipation began on Monday when we discovered Chad would get to stay home from work since school was cancelled! Yes! A day off! We woke Tuesday morning to cold temperatures. It must have been near freezing, 34 degrees. Brrrr. It was clear but we were expecting the worst around 10 am. So we ate a delicious breakfast of peanut butter baked oatmeal with chocolate chips and started a fire in the fire place.

Our first test of survival arrived when I went to feed the dogs. Gasp there was hardly any food left in the canister and with the freezing temperatures and the snow and ice to come there was no way we could venture out of the house. Fortunately there was just enough for the day.

Around 10am it began to snow/rain/sleet. I saw at least 4 large snow flurries! And you wouldn't believe the icicles that formed on the roof and table. They were at least 1/4" long! I took this picture of the snow/ice accumulation we got (it is not the greatest because I dared not venture out of the house it being so cold and icy, so I took it from the window).

It remained cold all day and we stayed inside. We ate lunch, took naps, ate chili for dinner and watched Happy Feet 2 (ummm I don't think I will ever watch that movie again...) because we could relate to the cold weather. After our movie we played don't break the ice.

Chad and I were wore out from our day in but the boys were not tired. So they pulled out their Superhero Costumes.

All in all we had a great day! I am thankful Chad got to be home with us!
