Duct Tape and Diapers

Duct tape and diapers. Those two things may not seem to have much in common.

That is until your 18 month old has no greater joy they taking off said diaper every time he is his crib. You may try every diaper type you can think of but he still manages to get out. You may think you'll just put button or zipper onsies or footies in him but he will figure out how to escape those two. You may be close to dispair after changing sheets and showering him off twice in one day. I was close to giving up.

But then I remembered what the mama of peacock twins did when faced with the same dilemma - duct tape. Yup. Duct tape around the diaper. So far it's working and I'm much relieved to not be changing and washing sheets and the boy after every bedtime and nap time. Let's pray it continues to work.

Look mom I took off my pjs and am pulling the sheets of just like you have done all week long - not today bud the duct tape kept your diaper on!

Another trip to the ER

The boys are super healthy. So the only time we see the dr is when they hurt themselves by being boys...

Asher came to the house on Sunday to show me his thumb. I couldn't see anything wrong with it so I wiped it off gave him a kiss, gave him some ice and sent him on his way. After his nap he woke up and his thumb was a little swollen. We thought perhaps he had a bug bite.

By Tuesday his swollen thumb was getting worse so I took him to the doctor. The doctor thought he had an action and gave him some antibiotics and told me I should start seeing improvement in 48 to 72 hours.

Fast forward to Thursday and the swelling was worse. It'd been almost 48 hours so I called the doctor back and took him in. The doctor sent us to Texas Children's Hospital.

After checking to make sure the infection did not reach the bone (X-ray) they gave him some pain meds and an anti-anxiety medal then the cut the finger and squeezed out the pus - yuck. It was a pretty terrible ordeal and he went crazy and was inconsolable and kept tearing off his bandages and cried until being buckled into his car seat at which point he passed out and slept all night.

Whew. Glad that's over. Now I get to administer pain medication and antibiotics for a couple of days and attempt to keep the wound clean - in the last ten minutes I've had to put a bandaid  on 3 times and his current one is falling off (it doesn't help he keeps ripping them off)...

Frogs and School

We have been busy these days looking for and catching frogs. And when we are not busy with frogs we squeeze in some school.

Jude is doing really great with his reading lessons (from teach your child to read in 100 easy lessons), some reading and lessons from five in a row and for the most part enjoying his rod and staff workbooks (there is a lot of coloring in the beginning and Jude is not crazy about coloring).

Shiloh is loving his "school" too which is a 3 year old rod and staff workbook combined with coloring books and lots of cutting paper and pencil sharpening.

Ninja Purple

Jude earned his Ninja Purple belt. Pretty cool not long until he completes the Ninja program and moves to the Dragon program (Ninja Red, then Brown then onto Dragon Green).

Demonstrating place for Instuctor Edna. She gave him a 10 on fitness and uniform (I may have spent some time with the iron)...

Blocking with Master Bridges (she is a tough judger - only an 8.5 on basic motion - though when starting from an average at 7 not to shabby)

Kicking and self defense with Pops, I mean Master Lieder (Jude got a 10...wonder if Pops' judging ability was impaired...bwhahahaha!)

Ninja Purple awarded by Aunt Charity, I mean Instructor Charity 😀

I think he was happy 😁

Trash Tree

This morning the boys raked leaves and sticks and collected trash in their wagon and a bin with a lid. When they were happy with their progress they came running and yelling, "look mom!" I asked what they had. The replied trash to take with them to the Cayman Islands so the could plant a trash tree on Pops' and Mimi's beach.
